# Edit annotations

Change, style, and organize the annotations you've drawn on a Felt map.

To change an annotation, click **Edit map**, then select the annotation. If you have Contribute access, click **Contribute** instead of **Edit map**.

## Move, resize, and rotate annotations

* Move: drag the annotation.
* Resize: drag a corner handle. The opposite corner stays in place and the shape keeps its proportions. Hold **Option** (Mac) or **Alt** (Windows) to resize from the center, or hold **Shift** while dragging to change the proportions. Drag a side handle of a note or image to change its shape. Text has no font-size setting, so resize text by dragging a corner handle.
* Rotate: move the pointer just outside a corner handle until the pointer becomes a curved arrow, then drag.

Pins have a fixed size, and their labels can't be resized or moved. For a larger label, turn off the pin's **Label** and place a Text annotation next to it.

## Select annotations

To select several annotations, **Shift**-click each one or **Shift**-drag a box around them. To select all annotations of one type, right-click one and click **Actions** > **Select all with the same type**.

When annotations overlap and a click selects the wrong one, select the one you want in the **List** tab of the legend. A locked annotation can't be changed until you unlock it. See [Lock and arrange annotations](#lock-and-arrange-annotations).

## Edit lines and polygons

Lines, routes, and polygons show their vertices when selected.

* To move a vertex, drag it. To add one, drag the middle of a segment.
* To delete a vertex, click it, then click **Delete**.
* To continue a line or route, click its end vertex, then click **Extend**.

To edit a rectangle's corners, right-click it and click **Actions** > **Convert rectangle to polygon**.

Felt can't merge or split drawn polygons. To merge them, convert them to a layer and dissolve it. See [Convert annotations to a layer](/annotations/draw-on-the-map.md#convert-annotations-to-a-layer) and [Spatial analysis](/analysis-and-dashboards/spatial-analysis.md).

## Style annotations

To style annotations, select them and open the **Style** tab in the detail panel. Each setting applies to every selected annotation.

| Setting                  | What it does                                                    | Annotations                                      |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Color** | Sets the color | All except links, videos, and images |
| **Icon**, **Label** | Sets the icon and shows or hides the name | Pins |
| **Fill**, **Stroke** | Sets the fill and outline opacity | Polygons, rectangles, and circles |
| **Opacity** | Sets the opacity | Lines, routes, markers, highlighters, and images |
| **Width**, **Style** | Sets the line width and makes the line solid, dashed, or dotted | Lines, routes, polygons, rectangles, and circles |
| **Routing**, **Endcaps** | Sets the travel mode and marks the ends with dots | Routes |
| **Align** | Aligns the text left, center, or right | Text and notes |
| **Style** | Sets the text to italic, light, regular, or caps | Text and notes |
| **Preview** | Shows or hides the preview | Links and videos |
| **On click** | Shows the image larger or does nothing | Images |

You can't change the font of a text annotation. To make several selected text annotations or notes the same size, right-click them and click **Actions** > **Align sizes**.

## Show measurements

To show an annotation's length, area, or radius on the map, select it and open the **Style** tab. Turn on **Distance** for a line or route, **Area** for a polygon or rectangle, or **Show radius** for a circle.

To switch between US and metric units, open the **Felt** menu and click **View** > **Units** > **US** or **Metric**. To measure without drawing, see [Measure](/tools/measure.md).

## Copy, duplicate, and delete annotations

* Delete: select the annotations and press **Delete** or **Backspace**. Felt has no eraser. To bring one back, press **Cmd+Z** (Mac) or **Ctrl+Z** (Windows).
* Duplicate: select the annotations and press **Cmd+D** (Mac) or **Ctrl+D** (Windows).
* Copy: select the annotations, then press **Cmd+C** and **Cmd+V** (Mac), or **Ctrl+C** and **Ctrl+V** (Windows). You can paste into another map.

## Lock and arrange annotations

Lock an annotation to keep it from being moved or edited. Select it, click **···** in the detail panel, and click **Lock** or **Unlock**.

To choose which annotations appear on top, right-click one and open **Arrange**. Annotations always appear above layers.

## Group annotations

Annotation groups let you select, style, and hide annotations together. To group annotations, select them and press **Cmd+G** (Mac) or **Ctrl+G** (Windows). Groups appear in the **List** tab of the legend.

To select everything in a group, click the group in the **List** tab, then click **Select group contents**.

### Show or hide a group

Only groups can be hidden, not single annotations. In the **List** tab, click **Hide group** (the eye icon) next to the group. Click **Show group** to show it again. A group hidden in edit mode is hidden for everyone. A group hidden while viewing the map is hidden only for you.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.felt.com/annotations/edit-annotations.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
