# Export data

Export layer data as CSV, GeoJSON, GeoPackage, GeoTIFF, Shapefile, KML, or GeoParquet. Download annotations as GeoJSON or GPX.

Export a layer's data to use it in GIS software, a spreadsheet, or Google Earth. People with View or Contribute access can export only when the map allows it. ## Export a layer

1. In the legend, open the **···** menu on the layer, or right-click the layer.
2. Click **Export…**. The **Export layer** dialog opens.
3. In **Format**, select a format. The list shows only the formats the layer supports.
4. Click **Export layer**. Felt prepares the file, and the download starts automatically.

The export downloads as a zip file to your browser's downloads folder. If you close the tab before the download starts, Felt emails you a link to the file.

The exported data uses WGS84 longitude and latitude (EPSG:4326) and includes edits made in Felt, such as moved features and changed attributes. Layers from tile services, such as XYZ raster tiles and vector tiles, have no data in Felt to export. To export layers published to a Felt Server without adding them to a map, use **Data sources**. ## Choose a format

GeoPackage is a good default for QGIS and ArcGIS.

| CSV        | Excel and other spreadsheets              | No geometry, except `felt:longitude` and `felt:latitude` columns for points    |
| Shapefile  | ArcGIS and older GIS workflows            | Column names are shortened to 10 characters                                    |
| KML        | Google Earth and Google My Maps           | Up to 500,000 features. Some column names, such as `description`, are renamed. |
| GeoParquet | DuckDB, data warehouses, and data science | Requires software that can read GeoParquet                                     |

* KML: Felt exports KML, not KMZ. Google Earth and Google My Maps open KML files directly. If a layer has too many features for KML, filter it or use GeoPackage.
* Shapefile: the zip contains the `.shp`, `.shx`, `.dbf`, and `.prj` files. Each file is limited to 2 GB. For larger exports, use GeoPackage or GeoParquet.

## Export as CSV or GeoParquet

To export CSV or GeoParquet, follow [Export a layer](#export-a-layer). In step 3, select the format from the **Format** list in the **Export layer** dialog. To use the data in Excel, export CSV and open it in Excel. Felt doesn't export `.xlsx` files.

## Export only filtered features

With **Apply filters** turned on in the **Export layer** dialog, Felt exports only the features that match the layer's filters and any spatial filter on the map. The switch appears when the layer has a filter that the selected format supports, and it's on by default. See [Filter layers](/layers/filter-layers.md).

Selecting features doesn't limit an export, so filter the layer to the features you want. To export only the features in the current view, open the layer's table, click **Visible**, then click **Export data**.

## Export several layers at once

Exporting several layers at once needs Edit access to the map. You can export up to 50 layers in one zip, with a separate file for each layer.

1. In the legend, select the layers. **Shift**-click to select a range, or **Cmd**-click (Mac) or **Ctrl**-click (Windows) to add a layer. To export a layer group, select the group.
2. Right-click the selection and click **Export…**.
3. In **Format**, select a format. If your selection includes both vector and raster layers, select a **Vector format** and a **Raster format**.
4. Click **Export layers**.

Felt doesn't merge layers into one file. To combine them, merge the exported files in QGIS or other GIS software.

## Export annotations

Exporting annotations needs Edit access to the map. Felt exports every annotation type except groups as GeoJSON, including pins, lines, routes, polygons, circles, and notes.

* Right-click selected annotations on the map and click **Export** > **To GeoJSON**.
* Open the **Felt** menu, click **File**, then click **Export selected** > **To GeoJSON**, or **Export all annotations** > **To GeoJSON**.

Each annotation's text becomes its `name` in the exported data, which also includes its description and attributes. To export a line or route as a GPX track, select it and click **To GPX** instead. No. Felt exports layer data only as CSV, GeoJSON, GeoPackage, GeoParquet, KML, Shapefile, and GeoTIFF. For DWG or DXF, export a GeoPackage or Shapefile and convert it in QGIS or your CAD software.
