# Set up the Field App

Take your Felt maps into the field. Get the free Field App for iPhone, iPad, or Android and log in with your Felt account.

Install the Field App on your phone or tablet, and log in with your Felt account to view maps, see your location, and capture features with photos. You can also work offline, and your changes sync when you're back online.

* Android: [Felt on Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.felt.mobile)

## What each Field App task needs

What you can do in the Field App depends on your access to the map, whether you have a seat, and your workspace's plan. See [Seats and viewers](/plans-and-billing/seats-and-viewers.md), [Permissions](/administration/permissions.md), and [Compare plans](https://felt.com/pricing#compare).

## Log in to the Field App

Log in to the Field App with your Felt account. If you don't have an account, [sign up for Felt](https://felt.com/signup) on the web first. You can't sign up in the app.

1. Open the Field App.
2. Enter your email address and tap **Next**.
3. Log in the way you do on the web: with your password, Google, or Single Sign-On (SSO). The app opens on your recent maps.

See [Account and login](/getting-started/account-and-login.md).

## Open a map in the Field App

The Field App opens on **Recents**, which lists the maps you viewed recently. Tap a map to open it. Tap the back arrow at the top left of the map to return to **Recents**.

* To narrow the list, tap the filter at the top of **Recents**, and select **My maps**, **Workspace maps**, or **All maps**.
* To open projects, **Drafts**, **Offline maps**, or another workspace, tap the **☰** menu at the top left.
* To open a specific map, tap its Felt link on your phone, such as the link in an invitation email. With the app installed, the link opens the map in the Field App, not the browser.

To find the controls you need, see [Tour the Field App](/field-app/tour-the-field-app.md).

## Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary>Can I use Felt in my phone's browser instead of the Field App?</summary>

Yes. Maps in a mobile browser use the same touch layout as the Field App. Only the Field App downloads maps for offline use and opens Felt map links directly, so we recommend it for field work.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I create maps or upload data in the Field App?</summary>

No. You create maps, upload data, and style layers in Felt on the web. In the Field App, you add and edit features in layers that already exist on a map. See [Run a field survey](/field-app/run-a-field-survey.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.felt.com/field-app/set-up-the-field-app.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
