# Comments

Discuss places and features with map comments. Add photos, mention people, and reply to or resolve threads.

Leave a comment at a place on a Felt map to start a discussion with the people you're working with. Click **Comment** in the toolbar at the top right, click the map, and enter your comment.

1. Click **Comment** in the toolbar, or press **C**.
2. Click the place on the map where the comment belongs.
3. Enter your comment in the **Type a comment…** box.
4. Optional: Enter **@** to mention someone.
5. Press **Enter** to post it.

## Add photos to a comment

Attaching photos to a Felt comment needs a seat. Commenting without photos doesn't.

1. Start a comment. See [Add a comment](#add-a-comment).
2. In the comment box, click **Add images** and choose the photos.

## Comment on a feature

Tag a feature to link it to a Felt comment. When you export comments, the file includes the tagged feature's data.

1. Start a comment near the feature. See [Add a comment](#add-a-comment).
2. In the comment box, click **Tag feature**.
3. Select the feature from the list of nearby features. The feature's name appears as a tag on the comment.

You can also start a comment from a feature: click the feature, open the **···** menu in its popup, and click **Add comment**. In the [table](/tools/table.md), right-click a feature's row and click **Add a comment**.

## Let others comment

Invited people with View access or more can comment for free. Commenting through a public link needs public link access set to **View and comment**, and a free Felt account. A public View link doesn't allow comments. See [Seats and viewers](/plans-and-billing/seats-and-viewers.md).

* To let specific people comment, invite them to the map with View, Contribute, or Edit access. See [Invite people by email](/share/share-a-map.md#invite-people-by-email).
* To let anyone with the link comment, set the map's public link access to **View and comment**. See [Set public link access](/share/share-a-map.md#set-public-link-access).

People opening a View and comment link without logging in can see the map but can't post. The comments list shows *An account is required to leave comments* and a **Sign up** button.

## Mention someone in a comment

When you mention someone in a Felt comment, Felt emails them the comment and a link to it on the map.

1. In the comment box, enter **@**.
2. Enter part of the person's name or email address.
3. Select the person from the list.

The list shows people with Felt accounts who are invited to the map or are members of your workspaces. If you have Edit access and mention someone who can't open the map yet, Felt invites them with View access.

## Reply to, resolve, and find comments

Click **Comment** in the toolbar to open the list of unresolved comments. If you can read comments but not post them, the button is **Comments**. Click any comment to jump to the map view where it was left.

* Reply: open a comment and enter your reply in the **Reply…** box.
* Resolve: click **Resolve** on a thread. The thread disappears from the map but isn't deleted. To post the reply you're typing, resolve the thread, and open the next one, press **Shift+Cmd+Enter** (Mac) or **Ctrl+Shift+Enter** (Windows).
* See past comments: in the comments list, open the **···** menu and click **Show resolved comments**.
* Edit, delete, or link: open the **···** menu on a comment.
* Hide comments on the map: press **Shift+C**.

You can delete and resolve your own comments. People with Edit access can delete and resolve anyone's comments.

## Export comments

{% hint style="success" %}
Available on the Business and Enterprise plans. [Compare plans](https://felt.com/pricing#compare)
{% endhint %}

You need Edit access to export comments. The file includes every comment on the map, with its coordinates, text, author, and any tagged feature data.

1. Click **Comment** in the toolbar to open the comments list.
2. Open the **···** menu in the comments list.
3. Click **Download comments as CSV** or **Download comments as GeoJSON**.

The REST API can also export and resolve comments. See [Comments](https://developers.felt.com/rest-api/api-reference/comments) in the developer docs.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.felt.com/share/comments.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
