# Zoom-based styling

Control when layers and labels appear by zoom level. Change colors, sizes, opacity, and line widths as the map zooms.

Zoom-based styling changes a layer's appearance as you zoom, or shows its features and labels only at certain zoom levels. Zoom-based settings are part of the style editor. See [Style vector layers](/styling/style-vector-layers.md).

## Set the visible zoom range

A visible zoom range sets the lowest and highest zoom levels at which a layer's features or labels appear. For example, you can show a detailed layer only when zoomed in.

1. Click **Edit map**, then click the layer in the legend.
2. In the header of the **Points**, **Lines**, or **Polygons** section, click **Limit visibility**.
3. Set the features' range, such as **Points range**, to the lowest and highest zoom levels you want. Zoom levels run from 1 to 23.
4. Optional: Set the **Labels range**. See [Labels](/styling/labels.md).

## Change styles by zoom level

Zoom styling lets you set a style value at each zoom stop. Felt blends between those values, for example making lines wider as you zoom in. Zoom styling works for size, fill, stroke, casing, line style, opacity, heatmap intensity, and label settings such as size and color. See [Style vector layers](/styling/style-vector-layers.md) and [Labels](/styling/labels.md).

1. In the style editor, click **Add zoom styling** next to the setting.
2. Select a zoom stop and set its value.

To use one value at every zoom level, click **Remove zoom styling**.

## Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary>How do I keep points the same size at every zoom level?</summary>

Point sizes are in screen pixels, so points stay the same size as you zoom unless **Size** has zoom styling. To remove it, click **Remove zoom styling** next to **Size**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.felt.com/styling/zoom-based-styling.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
